Hurriganes are a Finnish rock band that formed in the early 1970s. They were very popular in Finland in the 1970s and early '80s. Their classic line-up consisted of Remu Aaltonen, Albert Järvinen and Cisse Häkkinen. What seems like a misspelling in the name ("Hurriganes" with a "g") is intentional. Their style of music is very much of a roots rock'n'roll orientation. During their "classic" period, the band's output consisted largely of revved-up cover versions of well-known 1950s rock'n'roll songs in addition to their own original material. In this sense, Hurriganes can be viewed as Finland's answer to British pub rock performers of the 1970s like Dave Edmunds, Ducks DELUXE and Dr. Feelgood.

THE ORPHANS: Raise The Youth

via . by Nagiants40 on 8/30/09

THE ORPHANS: Raise The Youth

The Orphans formed in May 1995 in the Philly area...more specifically, in and around the area of West Chester, Pennsylvania. Really the story begins before then, on skateboards in driveways and parking lots while a beat-up tape player crackles and blares in the background. We played basement shows mostly... a few backyards and a whole slew of rentable halls with a lot of bands we became friends with. All in all it adds up to the greatest time of your life: pissed off, carefree, caffeinated and brimming with the relentless desire to get in front of a roomful of dirty, spiky kids around your age and just fucking scream til you can't scream no more. We stopped playing officially in 2000, but have played reunion shows time and again for one reason or another. Our discography CD, "Raise the Youth," is still available through Fistolo Records (www.fistolo.com) and the Mischief Brew website (www.mischiefbrew.com).

Sic Alps – L. Mansion 7″ vinyl [Slumberland, 2009]

via Bolachas by flip on 8/26/09

Sic Alps
try: MF
Label: Slumberland
watch: youtube
buy: normanrecords

tracklist:
Side A – L Mansion
Side B – Superlungs My Supergirl

Sic Alps make music with their eyes on the past but their feet firmly in the present. Bits of psychedelia, folk, garage, punk and other fuh fairly well flow from their fingers, seamlessly worked together to render easy categorizations pointless. Over the course of numerous singles and albums on such fine labels as Siltbreeze, Mt St Mtn and Woodsist, Sic Alps’ Mike Donovan and Matt Hartman have carved themselves a snug niche filled with fuzz, crackle, vibes and most of all cracking tunes.
Continuing this fine tradition is L. Mansion, a swinging little folk/beat tune that is totally timeless/out of time in the way of Sic Alps’ best songs. As straightforwardly “pop” as anything they’ve done, and a totally effective summertime single. On the flip we get a banging cover of Donovan’s ode to puff — “Superlungs.” Wild and thumping, Matt and Mike have definitely taken the Sunshine Superman on a little side trip to Detroit rock city.

L. Mansion:
“she went to seek adoption, just to see wot she had gotten for me
we bombed that mansion, its gonna be the last one, its gonna be the last fling
we went to see a doc then, just to see wot she had gotten for me
mind searching, shes gonna get back at them, gonna gonna get back at them with violence”
