This week, we’re taking a look at the Left Coast invasion scheduled to hit Memphis at the end of the month. First up: Bay Area greats Thee Oh Sees, returning after both a captivating performance at Gonerfest V and a summer 2009 opening slot on the road with Jay Reatard (who pressed a split seven-inch [...]
It makes perfect sense to follow up a post on Thee Oh Sees with one on the Intelligence, who will return to Memphis for their second Gonerfest in a row, hitting the stage at the Hi-Tone Cafe on Friday, Sept. 24. Although the Intelligence hail from Seattle, both no-wave bands are on the In the [...]

The New York Dolls have reunited with Todd Rundgren, producer of their influential 1973 debut, to record their fourth studio album, 'Cause I Sez So, on Atco Records. Recorded at Utopia Sound Studio in Kauai, Hawaii, the album features original Dolls David Johansen (vocals) and Sylvain Sylvain (guitar) plus Steve Conte (guitar), Brian Delaney (drums), and Sami Yaffa (bass). The 12-song track list features 11 original compositions, including the first single ' 'Cause I Sez So' and a new version of 'Trash,' which was on their 1973 debut album. 'It was amazing working with Todd again, and I think we were able to evoke the special sound of our first album and drag it by the hair into the present,' says frontman Johansen..... http://sharebee.com/75aec055
I've waited since late '06 to finally see this band live, but couldn't afford the trip cross country back then. Later, they played some shows in California but I had no idea, and missed out again. Now, they're returning to Chicago for the first time since they broke up in 2001. I've been a fan for almost that long while the band was a personal favorite for many of those years. They're one of the best punk and rock 'n' roll acts, as proven by a nearly flawless discography. Now that I get to see 'em, finally, I'll be listening to these a lot more. It's tough suggesting where to start if you've never heard MCD. Self-titled has that cheap, gritty, older punk rock sound that bands like White Stripes bastardized. Empty Bottles, Broken Hearts is one of my favorites with its excellent lyrics and a sound that's fun and hurt like the title implies. In Name and Blood has the best singles, and a lot of people consider it their best. The keyboards are vital and the backbone of the band, and they shine on this record. Thelema is an EP with what is arguably their best track, "Midnight Service At The Mutter Museum."
